By David Samuel Robbins One of the great things about exploring an Indian city with a knowledgable local guide / fixer is the opportunity to access obscure parts of town that tourists never visit. I’ve always found heavy industry to be visually fascinating because no design consideration was given to aesthetics - only to pure function. Yet, although unintentional, there can be a rough, worn beauty in these machines and worksites, and fertile ground for compelling environmental portraiture. These images were made in Amritsar (The Punjab), Kolkata (West Bengal), Madurai (Tamil Nadu) and Udaipur (Rajasthan). |
